Tech Trek

The American Association of University Women (AAUW) – Santa Maria Branch will be giving full scholarships to eight local students to attend Tech Trek at UC Santa Barbara this summer. Tech Trek is a week-long science and math camp designed to develop interest, excitement, and self-confidence in young women who will enter eighth grade in the fall. It features hands-on activities in math, science, and related fields.
For Tech Trek, the Santa Maria Branch of AAUW targets the underserved population of the local community, particularly those young women who will be the first in their family to attend college. It is believed that a one-week residence experience on a college campus will increase the likelihood that these young women will pursue higher education.

Many generous individuals and organizations have donated funds to aid in the scholarships. AAUW-Santa Maria members have matched several grants, including those from Coast Hills Community Foundation, Elks Charities, Energy Partners Fund, Santa Maria Kiwanis for Kids, Inc. (Noontime Kiwanis), and Santa Maria Rotary Foundation.

AAUW advances equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy, and research. If you would like further information on Tech Trek, or AAUW, please contact AAUW Santa Maria.
