May 2014 – Scholarship

The Santa Maria Branch of AAUW supports the Mission of AAUW to advance equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy, and research. One of the most productive ways we support women in our community is to grant College Scholarships through Allan Hancock College, Santa Maria, CA. We have a member, Marion, who, with her husband George, have a booth at our local swap meet. They are devoted to accepting most any and most all goods from our members to sell at the swap meet, and all the proceeds go to fund these college scholarships. Our local scholarship awards program was initiated in 1994. During these past 20 years, our branch has raised over $50,000 from donated items for resale. 40 scholarships have been presented as well as student affiliate memberships to our branch.

This year we are please to grant 2 College Scholarships.

Elizabeth Hendrick (the blonde), on the left, is majoring in business and Gina (the brunette), on the right, is pursuing her Bachelor’s Degree. We are pleased to support these young women in their educational endeavors.
