While there is no special meeting for the AAUW Santa Maria Branch in June, we do hold a Reception for the girls who have been chosen to attend Tech Trek in the summer at UCSB.  This year we were pleased to honor Lara Carandang, Tiara Lewis, Mia Lopez, and Odalys Santos.  Lara hopes to attend classes in biology or chemistry as she hopes to be a nurse or MD after college.  Tiara hopes to attend the physical science class to help her in her plans to be an orthopedic surgeon.  Mia, who plans on being a civil engineer, hopes to attend the class for material sources.  And Odalys hopes to attend classes on ecology, as she plans on being a veterinarian.  Daisy Salazar, who attended the 2011 Tech Trek from Santa Maria, shared her experience in the program, the classes that she enjoyed, including computer science and photography, and how her attendance will help in obtaining financial support for college.  We salute these young ladies in their journey to expand their minds and lives as they grow in their experiences.
