Each year, in May, our Branch donates scholarships to deserving women at Allan Hancock College in Santa Maria. These scholarships, worth $750 each, are available as the result of strong fundraising done by our member, Marion. She and her husband sell lots of lots of donated items, collecting all the proceeds to go to our scholarship fund. We are so very appreciative of all their hard work … and so proud of the recipients.

Our branch sponsored three $750 scholarships in May at the Allan Hancock Awards Banquet. Nicole Cason, Claire Chamberlain, and Araceli Vasquez-Argon are the AAUW scholarship recipients for 2016-17. In addition, our branch provides a one year student affiliate membership for these women to become acquainted with AAUW.
We will be able to meet them and hear about their plans and goals for the future at our upcoming September Meeting on Saturday, September 17th.
Your continuing support and generosity for our local scholarship fund raising provides this gift of opportunity to women in our community to continue their academic endeavors. For donations throughout the year, please call me at 928-2881 to arrange for pick-up or drop off at your convenience. We could not continue to support scholarship fund raising without YOU!
