Advancing equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy, and research.
The American Association of University Women (AAUW) is the nation’s leading voice promoting equity and education for women and girls. Since our founding in 1881, AAUW members have examined and taken positions on the fundamental issues of the day — educational, social, economic, and political.
AAUW Santa Maria Branch has been committed to supporting local women with scholarships at the local college, Allan Hancock College for many, many years. This year we were able to grant 3 scholarships to the following ladies:
Alicia Flowers
Carol Lotery – majoring in English, a transfer from Cuesta College, she plans to obtain a Ph.D.
Leah Krause – working on completing her AA in Liberal Arts, she began attending community college when she was 14.
Carol Lotery (the Jamaican lady) is majoring in English and a transfer from Cuesta College. She plans to obtain a PhD.
The other lady is Leah Krause working on completing her AA in Liberal Arts at A. Hancock. She began attending community college at the age of 14.
Both ladies were very appreciative and delightful. We hope to meet them in September at the Welcome Back General Meeting.
